After three consecutive goalless draws in Serie A, Juventus needed to work hard to turn their luck around and overcome a resolute Genoa side.
There was not much action in the first half as the hosts frustrated the visitors despite only 37% possession of the ball. The Bianconeri, however, failed to make their dominance count with only two shots after 45 minutes, neither of which hit the target.
It appeared another grim result might occur (which would have been a massive result for Genoa) until a bit of luck unlocked Dušan Vlahović’s talents.
Former Juventus player Koni De Winter handled the ball in the box after an awkward bounce, and the Serbian slotted home the subsequent penalty.
Vlahović then made it two on the night seven minutes later after beating Mattia Bani one-on-one and slotting home from a tight angle. It’s the best response to the critics after he was hauled off the pitch last week for poor performances.
Genoa struggled to gain possession of the ball and were left with limited ideas regarding how to kickstart a potential comeback. Their tiredness then allowed Francisco Conceição to net a third off the bench and his first in black and white.
It’s a back-to-back stumble as Alberto Gilardino’s men were recently knocked out of the Coppa Italia while Juventus lead the table by one point.
