Real Madrid manage eight straight wins for the first time in four years

Real Madrid have hit form at the perfect time, racking up eight wins on the bounce in LaLiga Santander which has left them on the verge of lifting the title.

The last time they managed such a feat of consecutive victories was four years ago, when Zinedine Zidane was in his first spell with the club as coach.

After Rafa Benitez’s dream came to a disappointing end, Zidane came in as the emergency solution.Just two months into the Frenchman’s tenure, after Antoine Griezmann scored the winner at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Matchday 26, Los Blancos went on to win all their remaining games.

That streak saw wins over Levante, Celta Vigo, Las Palmas, Sevilla, Barcelona, Eibar, Getafe, Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad, Valencia and Deportivo La Coruna. The run extended to 16 overall with wins in each of the first four games of the following season against Real Sociedad, Celta, Osasuna and Espanyol.

Those 12 league wins at the end of the 2015/16 season were not enough for Real Madrid to win the title but the campaign did end happily as they won the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.
