Real Madrid have announced their squad for the Lille Champions League game. Kylian Mbappe, who’s been recovering from a thigh injury, is in the squad. He’ll be given the all clear by the medical staff to play.
Mbappe’s Early Return from Injury
Last week we thought the worst when Kylian Mbappe got injured in the last minutes of the La Liga game against Deportivo Alaves. The club confirmed it was a femoral bicep injury in his right leg and we were told he’d be out for 3 weeks. But surprise surprise Mbappe has recovered ahead of schedule and will now play in Real Madrid’s second Champions League group game on Tuesday.
Real Madrid’s Slow Burn with Mbappe
Despite training with the team, Real Madrid are not planning to start Mbappe. According to El Partidazo de COPE, the club won’t play him against Lille. They want him to train with the team and assess his condition closer to the game. Ultimately it’s up to Carlo Ancelotti if Mbappe will play.
Reunion with Brother Ethan Mbappe
Carlo Ancelotti considered the emotional value of the trip to France for Mbappe. The game against Lille is a rare opportunity for Kylian to see his brother Ethan Mbappe. The two brothers played together at Paris Saint-Germain before both made summer moves—Kylian to Real Madrid and Ethan to Lille.
When they played together at PSG the Mbappe brothers played 5 times. Kylian scored in every game they played together. He scored 2 against Metz and 1 against Lorient in Ligue 1. He also scored against Orleans in the French Cup and 3 against Revel in a friendly match.
