In an official statement, Madrid revealed that Mbappe will be sidelined for around three weeks, meaning he won’t be available for Sunday’s derby. His injury will be closely monitored as he undergoes treatment.
Mbappe was substituted in the 80th minute after scoring in the first half to give Madrid a 2-0 lead at the Bernabeu. Despite his vital contribution, the team will now have to cope without him for upcoming matches, including the UEFA Champions League.
The injury setback comes at an unfortunate time for Madrid, as Mbappe has been in sensational form, scoring six goals in his last five matches. His absence leaves a void as Madrid prepare to face Atletico this weekend and Villarreal next week in La Liga.
Madrid’s statement read: “Following medical tests on Kylian Mbappe injured, he has been diagnosed with a biceps femoris injury in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”
Apart from the Atletico clash, the French forward is expected to miss the home match against Villarreal. Between these fixtures, Madrid will travel to face Lille in the UEFA Champions League, a critical encounter for the reigning champions.
Madrid will hope to have Mbappe injured recovered by the time they face Barcelona at the end of October. That match could mark his first appearance in El Clasico, a highly anticipated showdown.
