Robert Lewandowski is on the brink of Champions League history, needing just one more goal to reach 100 in Europe’s premier competition. Following Barcelona’s impressive 5-2 victory over Red Star Belgrade, Lewandowski expressed excitement over the milestone and praised the team’s performance.
Reflecting on the importance of the win, Lewandowski emphasized that “winning away games is crucial at this stage of the Champions League.” He acknowledged a slower start in the first half but highlighted Barcelona’s improvement after the break: “We played very well, took our chances, and always had the game under control.”
The Polish striker’s two goals against Red Star bring him to 99 Champions League goals. On the verge of reaching a century, he shared his satisfaction, saying, “I feel very good about it.”
Lewandowski also spoke on the challenge of finding space against defensive setups like Red Star’s: “In games like these, patience is key for a striker. You have to wait for the right moment.”
Lewandowski praised his teammates’ efforts on both ends of the pitch: “This season, we are playing very offensively and scoring a lot, but our defense is also performing excellently. Right now, everything is working almost perfectly.”
