Kevin De Bruyne to reject new Manchester City contract

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is reportedly set to reject the Citizens’ first offer of a new contract.
Talks between the two parties are believed to have been ongoing for a couple of months now, and De Bruyne has confirmed that he is representing himself in negotiations.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that talks between City and the player were progressing well and there was optimism that an agreement was “very close” to being reached.

However, The Times reports that De Bruyne is not satisfied with the club’s initial offer and is set to turn it down in favour of a more lucrative deal.

The report claims that the 29-year-old wants his status as one of the Premier League’s top players to be reflected in his pay packet, but he is still expected to commit his future to Man City as talks continue over the coming weeks.

De Bruyne’s current deal is not due to expire until the end of the 2022-23 campaign, and the former Chelsea man has scored three goals and set up 12 more across all competitions this season.
