Ivan Toney is ready to let his Brentford contract run out if he doesn’t get a big move this summer. He will be a free agent at the end of the next season and has no plans to sign a new deal with Brentford.

Arsenal had shown interest in the £60 million-rated England international. However, it now seems unlikely that they will make a formal bid. Sources close to Ivan Toney hope that Tottenham will make an offer before the transfer window closes. West Ham is another potential destination for him.

Saudi Arabian clubs are also interested in Toney. As he enters the final year of his Brentford contract, he has just come off a successful summer. Toney played a crucial role in England’s Euro 2024 campaign. He made a significant impact as a substitute, assisting Harry Kane in England’s 2-1 win over Slovakia in the Round of 16.

Additionally, Toney scored a memorable no-look penalty in England’s shootout victory over Switzerland in the quarter-finals. The 28-year-old has been with Brentford since 2020. He helped the team achieve its first-ever Premier League appearance in the 2020/21 season and has been key in keeping them in the top flight for four consecutive seasons.

Thomas Frank’s team faced difficulties last season, with Toney serving a ban in the first half. Toney started his career with Northampton Town before moving to Newcastle United in 2015. Although he showed promise, he struggled to break into Newcastle’s first team and was loaned out several times.

In 2018, Toney joined Peterborough United, where he excelled. He scored 49 goals in 94 appearances, attracting Brentford’s attention. The west London club signed him for up to £10 million in August 2020. At Brentford, Toney quickly made an impact, scoring 31 goals and helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time since the 1946/47 season.

With 72 goals in 141 appearances for Brentford, Toney earned his first England call-up in March 2023 and played at Euro 2024. It seems he is looking at a move to Tottenham. However, Darragh MacAnthony, his former chairman at Peterborough, believes West Ham should also consider making an offer.

MacAnthony said, “David Sullivan at West Ham has always admired Ivan Toney. He might try to negotiate a bargain deal with Brentford. If Sullivan is smart, he will pursue Toney. It could be the best signing West Ham has made in years.”
