Steph Curry passed Charles Barkley on the NBA’s all-time scoring list as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics 118-112 on Wednesday night.
Curry, 34, who has four NBA championships to his name, scored 27 points and notched a triple-double, moving him to 30th on the all-time scoring list. This victory marked the Warriors’ fifth consecutive win.
The record-breaking moment came in the third quarter when Curry scored his 23,747th career point, surpassing Barkley, who has often been vocal in his criticism of the Warriors and previously predicted a “mediocre” season for them.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers set a new franchise record with nine straight wins, defeating the New Orleans Pelicans 131-122. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 29 points.
In another game, the LA Lakers fell 131-114 to the Memphis Grizzlies, despite a season-high 39-point performance from LeBron James. Lakers coach JJ Redick praised James, saying, “He played hard. Almost 40 years old, and he played the hardest on our team. It says a lot about him.”
