Alisson Becker is set to make his return for Liverpool as they prepare to face Wolves in the Premier League. The Brazilian goalkeeper missed the last two matches, but Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed he is fit to return to action.
Alisson Becker missed the past two games, with Caoimhin Kelleher stepping in as his replacement. However, Slot announced on Friday that Alisson is ready for selection and could start against Wolves. “He trained yesterday with the team for part of the session. We expect him to complete the full session today,” Slot explained during the pre-match press conference.
Slot added, “We believe he is available for Saturday’s match. Of course, we need to assess him during training today. We’re really happy to have Alisson Becker back, but I also want to emphasize that Caoimhin did an excellent job in the two games he played. It’s great to have multiple strong options in key positions.”
Liverpool currently sits second in the Premier League standings, just one point behind reigning champions Manchester City. They have secured four wins from their first five games, which Slot described as a “good start,” though he admitted there was room for improvement. “It’s been a positive start, but not a perfect one,” Slot said. “The disappointment of losing at home to Nottingham Forest still stings.”
Slot continued, “Any home defeat is tough to take, especially when it’s against a team not necessarily fighting for a top-four spot. But you never know what Nottingham Forest could achieve this season.”
Reflecting on his early days as Liverpool’s manager after replacing Jurgen Klopp, Slot remarked, “The style we play is still very similar to what you’ve seen for the past nine years. We’ve kept almost all the same players that Klopp had. Keeping the momentum going is key, but I must also say that the fixture list has been kind to us so far.”
Alisson Becker is now set to bolster Liverpool’s squad as they aim to maintain their strong start to the season and chase Manchester City at the top of the table.
